Former Gillingham defender Simon King backs Mark Robson, and Martin Allen for vacant post.
Simon King has backed both Mark Robson and Martin Allen to take on the job at Priestfield.
King who was released by the club earlier this week was signed by Allen at Barnet, while he worked closely with Robson during his time as a coach at Gillingham.
Peterbrough first team coach Robson is believed to be on the shortlist for the role, while Allen, who is without a job at the moment after guiding Barnet to safety on the last day of the season, is evens with the bookies to take the job.
King, 29, was signed by Ronnie Jepson for £200,000 from Underhill five years ago, and went on to become a fans favourite, something he feels former boss Allen would have no problem in doing.
“Ive worked with him before he signed me at Barnet,” he said. “He’s a good manager, I believe in what he does, he’s a bit erratic but he gets the best out of players, he cam in at the end of the season and kept them.
“He’s got something about him where he gets the best out of players. He’s very passionate about the game, the fans would definitely take to him.”
Meanwhile Robson was coach at Gillingham under Mark Stimson, and applied to take on the manager’s job after Stimson was sacked, but became assistant manager under Andy Hessenthaler for three weeks before leaving for personal reasons in 2010.
King said Robson set high standards, and was spoken highly of by fellow pros including Charlie Lee, and Chris Whelpdale who worked with him at the Posh.
“When I worked with him the year we got promoted he was a brilliant coach, I couldn’t speak highly enough of him, his drills, coaching and training, he would keep you on your toes,” he said.
“I would always look forward to a session with him. He set very high standards, if you weren’t up to standard you would know about it.
“He was a little man but he’s got one hell of a voice on him. He’s not very experienced at being a manager, but I’m sure he would be a good manager if he got the chance.
“Chaz (Charlie Lee) and Whelps (Chris Whelpdale) know him as well, and everyone I’ve spoken to speaks highly of him.”
