Steve Tilson was interviewed for the job at Gillingham

Steve Tilson who was among the final few interviewed for Gillingham manager’s job has been appointed boss at Canvey Island.

Tilson, who enjoyed his best spell in charge at Southend United, while also managing at Blue Square Premier side until last October Lincoln, has been put in charge of the Ryman Premier Division side on a full-time basis.

In seven years at Southend, he got the club promoted to the Championship, but he left in 2010 when the club were relegated back to League Two.
