Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was shot with a pellet gun.

The 39-year-old victim was riding on Military Road about a mile and a half from Appledore in Ashford when the driver of a white van pointed what is believed to be an air pistol and shot him in the arm.

He was left shaken and with a minor cut.

The cyclist was riding in the direction of Rye at around 5.15pm on Thursday, June 28, when he noticed the white van travelling in the opposite direction slowed down before he was shot.

It is described as a white coloured Vauxhall Astravan, with alloy multi-spoke wheels, and possibly tinted glass windows. The driver was male, with distinctive light coloured hair.

PC Justin Farrow, who is investigating the incident, said: “I would particularly like to hear from anyone who has been involved in a similar incident, or who may have been in the area at the time this happened.

“This could have been so much worse, had the pellet hit the cyclist in the eye.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Farrow on 101 quoting ref ZY/17759/12.
