Steve Lovell hailed Saturday’s 4-2 win against relegation rivals Corinthian Casuals as Ashford Town’s best performance of the season.
Ashford came from a goal behind to beat Corinthian Casuals 4-2, courtesy of goals from Tom Murphy, Lee Hockey, Mark Lovell and Ross Morley.
The win was only Ashford’s fifth in the league this season and Lovell believes naming a settled side for the last few games has helped turn around Town’s fortunes and move them off the bottom of the division.
He said: “It was the best performance of the season, especially when you look at how we put away our chances. We have beaten Dulwich and Horsham recently, but this was a real six-pointer and could be extremely crucial. We’ve always had belief, but having 90 per cent of the squad fit and available has helped. When you name the same side for a few games results should improve.”
However, with Whitstable Town picking up a 1-0 win against Chipstead, Ashford remain in the relegation zone and three points adrift of safety. Lovell’s side face another eight games this month, beginning with the visit of Ramsgate tonight (Wednesday).
He said: “It all depends on what everybody else does. We may not need as many wins as we first thought. We have a lot of games coming up and it’s going to be tough, but we have got to focus on our own performances. We’re just going to have to go into every game thinking we can win.”
